About us
The Slovenian Association of Mediators was founded on 5 September 2006 with the aim of propagating, developing and carrying out mediations and other methods of alternative dispute resolution in Slovenia, and with the aim of ensuring protection and looking after the interests of the members of the Association. The Association's headquarters are located in Poljanski nasip 2, in Ljubljana.
Presentation
The Association performs many different tasks, especially informing and bringing together various target publics:
- mediators and organizations involved in mediation,
- users of mediation services (persons and organizations),
- institutions in charge of providing information on the possibilities of mediation and the adoption and implementation of laws and public authorizations connected to mediation.
The Association's Responsibilities
- mutual exchange of experience and expertise of the members of the Association,
- training of members and the people who are interested in mediation,
- organization of consultations, seminars and study trips in Slovenia and abroad,
- publishing of books, brochures, newsletters in the areas related to alternative dispute resolution,
- organizing seminars and exchanging experience between the members and non-members,
- organizing public debates on the alternative methods of settling disputes,
- cooperating with institutions and other societies/associations engaged in similar activities or having similar objectives,
- promoting the idea of alternative dispute resolution in Slovenia,
- offering suggestions and proposals to the legislator in adopting regulations and implementing regulations pertaining to alternative dispute resolution,
- collaborating with international societies and associations of mediators,
- organizing training courses for developing the skills required by mediators,
- organizing the training of future mediators,
- organizing the training of teachers (trainers) for the training of mediators,
- organizing seminars and implementing all forms of alternative methods of dispute resolution,
- promoting the idea of alternative methods of settling disputes between young people and citizens,
- the drafting of a code of conduct for mediators,
- organizing mediations and assigning mediators to individual cases,
- determining the mediator's rates and fees.

Members
Members of the Slovenian Association of Mediators
Membership may be gained by any natural person with legal capacity who holds a certificate of completing a mediation training course of at least 40 hours, which is recognized by the management committee of the Association. Even if a person does not hold this certificate, he or she may still become a member of the Association if the management committee assesses that they have the required knowledge and experience to become a mediator and decides the matter with a special resolution. A natural person becomes a member of the Association after the adopted decision of the management committee and after signing the declaration of membership and paying the membership fee. The annual membership fee is EUR 40.
